Besson Albert System C Clarinet

This Besson Albert System C clarinet is a vintage instrument in grenadilla wood, and of an uncertain age. (The joints are stamped 'Besson, London', whereas the bell is stamped 'sold by Besson, London'). The low serial number (3088) suggests it may be 1930s or earlier. It is in good condition, and was professionally restored in 2017, being fitted with new corks and fishskin pads. It has a bright tone, and is particularly well suited to playing klezmer and folk music. The German silver keywork has been polished up, and has kept its lustre. The original mouthpiece is grenadilla wood, and is still usable, but I have played with equal success using a present-day hard rubber mouthpiece from a Bflat instrument. The ligature and cap are not original. The handles and straps on the original leather case had rotted away, so the instrument is being supplied in a more recent, plush-lined wooden case.
